The Indian automobile market was the 9th largest automobile manufacturers in the world in the year 2008 with an annual production of 2.3 million units and emerged as the fourth largest exporters of automobiles in 2009 although the sector was hit by economic slowdown the overall production increased from 10.85 million vehicles in 2007-08 to 11.17 million vehicles in 2008-09. Passenger vehicles increased marginally from 1.77 million to 1.83 million while two-wheelers increased from 8.02 million to 8.41 million.The steady growth of the Indian middle class is one of the major reasons behind the rise in the demand of two and four wheelers. India having trained and skilled manpower at competitive costs is continuously attracting global automobile majors and making India one of the biggest automobile manufacturing hubs.
