What is an aesthetic therapist?
An aesthetic therapist is a non-medical practitioner who
specialises in the education and treatment of the skin by performing
minimally invasive treatments, such as Microdermabrasion; Chemical
Peels; Micro-needling and Laser Hair Removal treatments and providing
assistance and additional support to doctors in a range of medical
aesthetic treatment procedures.
There has been an increase in aesthetic clinics and medi-spas across
the UK and a rise in demand for non-surgical aesthetic
treatments. Therefore, there is also an increase in the demand for
highly-able assistants, who can support the doctor in performing
aesthetic procedures, but also providing the expected quality of pre
and post-treatment advice and homecare to the clients.
The aesthetic therapy industry is growing rapidly and one of the
greatest challenges we face today as professional beauty therapists is
staying up-to-date with the rapid advances in medical aesthetic skin
therapy. The clients demand for such services has resulted in the need
for beauty therapists to be better educated and trained on safe and
effective practices. As new non-invasive treatments are introduced and
the demand continues to build, the opportunities to become part of this
fascinating industry are immense.
