Two days added to build consensus

APRIL 25, KATHMANDU.  A meeting of the Constitutional Committee (CC) on Wednesday has agreed to provide additional two days to the Dispute Resolution Sub Committee to forge consensus on the contentious issues in the constitution-drafting.

At the meeting, Sub Committee coordinator and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal sought two additional days for settling the outstanding issues, citing that further discussions were necessary on some issues.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, CC Chairman Neelambar Acharya said the meeting agreed to provide two more days to the Sub Committee to resolve the issues following the request from the Sub Committee itself.

However, the meeting had expected that the Sub Committee would come with a report listing the settled issues, he added.

The Committee shall meet again at 11:00 a.m. on April 28, it is learnt.

According to Acharya, the Sub Committee report would get formal status only after the CC approves it.

The top leaders of the parties informed the meeting that consensus has been forged on the issues of judiciary and electoral system and they were near to a consensus, regarding form of governance and state restructuring issues.

Also talking to media emerging from the meeting, Sub Committee coordinator Dahal said discussions were going on regarding the remaining issues and they would be settled by the next two days.

As per the earlier decision, the parties had to finalise the disputed issues by today. Otherwise, a voting process would be adopted to settle them.
