An Agni Air 9N AIG plane crashed near Jomsom, the district headquarters of remote Mustang district, at 9:45 am today, leaving 15 persons, including the crew, dead and six others injured.
Although details are still sketchy, the tragedy occurred when the plane heading to Jomsom from Pokhara with 18 passengers and three crew members on board crashed into a hill during landing.
Among the passengers, 16 were Indian nationals and two are believed to be from other countries.
The passengers were going to Jomsom to pay a visit to Muktinath, a popular pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. However, Agni Air officials in Kathmandu are yet to identify the deceased and provide further details.
Laxmi Gautam, Chief District Office of Mustang, said some eight passengers were rescued alive by a team of Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel involved in search and rescue operations immediately after the crash. The crash site is nearby a Nepal Army barracks.
The eight injured were airlifted to Pokhara for treatment, but two, including an unidentified crew member died on the way, according to reports.
The condition of remaining injured passengers is also said to be very serious.
Meanwhile, there was some delay in taking the critically injured in the air crash to the hospital in Pokhara as transport operators have been obstructing vehicular movement in the town for fulfillment of their demands.

घाइते ६ जनाको थप उपचारका लागि पोखरा पठाईसकेको मुस्ताङका प्रमूख जिल्ला अधिकारी लक्ष्मीराज गौतमले जानकरी दिनुभयो । जोमसोमका लागि उडेको विमान अवतरणका क्रममा जोमसोम नजिकैको डाँडामा ठोकिएर दुर्घटनामा भएको मुस्ताङका प्रहरी प्रमुख बसन्त रञ्जितले जानकारी दिनुभयो । विमानमा १६ जना भारतीय, २ विदेशी र ३ जना चालक दलका सदस्य सवार रहेका थिए ।
यता धौलागिरी यातायातले नयाँ बस सञ्चालन गर्न नपाईने माग गर्दै पोखराका सडकहरुमा बस राखेर जाम गरेका कारण विरामीलाई अस्पतालसम्म लान गाह्रो भईरहेको बताईएको छ ।
